Do I need a license or insurance?
If you are holding a solo walk or small group walk with family and friends in a public area such as a park or public footpaths, you’re unlikely to need to consider insurance or licenses. If you are holding a large-scale walk and inviting more people to join you, it is important to consider if these are necessary for your event.
Although there is no legal requirement to purchase insurance for a community event such as a large group walk, you might want to think about public liability insurance in case anything goes wrong.
If you are organising a large event, we recommend checking with your local council if you require any special permissions or licenses required. If you are planning a walk which passes through any private land, you must also ensure that you have the landowner's permission to do this.
Does organising an event cost any money?
It is important to remember that large walks can incur costs such as licenses, insurance, printing and refreshments. To help raise as much as possible for Brain Tumour Research, we advise that you keep your costs as low as you can. You can also ask local businesses to sponsor your walk or to provide refreshments free of charge!
